Being Seattle natives, we’ve been graced with numerous opportunities to see Beat Connection live at venues ranging from a packed dance tent at Sasquatch to tiny house parties near the University of Washington. It’s been an interesting journey for the foursome from DJ/dance act to full fledged band and they’ve handled it with graceful aplomb at every turn. Their debut album, The Palace Garden, was released on Tuesday marking another success point in the band’s burgeoning career. For obvious reasons, I can’t share the full album, but I highly recommend it. What I can share with you though is the B-Side to “Palace Garden, 4am”, the first single off of the album. The first thing that caught me about “Lotus Blossom” was the Michael Franks sample. Why did I recognize a sample from this guy you ask? It’s the same sample on that one French Montana song! You know the one. The only good French Montana song. Well Beat Connection have flipped the already sublime original into a pretty little Summer jam full of tropical bird calls and plenty of other soothing ambient noises.
