I have probably talked about this album enough already to show how excited I am for this release. Robert Glasper Experiment releases their first full length album that cannot be described as any one genre. The album draws from jazz, hip hop, R&B and rock (they cover smells like teen spirit by Nirvana). Lets first talk about the amazing lineup of special guests, including Erykah Badu, Bilal, Lupe Fiasco, Lalah Hathaway, Shafiq Husayn, KING, Ledisi, Chrisette Michele, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), Musiq Soulchild, Meshell Ndegeocello and Stokley Williams. This lineup in itself should get you very stoked to check out the album. These featured artists paired with pianist Robert Glasper, saxist Casey Benjamin, bassist Derrick Hodge, and my personal favorite, drummer Chris Dave is jaw dropping. I can say that Chris Dave is one of the most talented drummers I have heard in a long time. Here’s a taste of Chris Dave.

For the people who see the names Lupe and Mos Def, their features will not disappoint. To be honest, I think Lupe hasnt really put out any noteworthy material since food and liquor. Look at his attempt to rap over lights by bassnectar or M83’s Midnight City. I dont know what he was thinking, but his track Always shine is respectable. Mos Def does what Mos does and absolutely killed it on the track, Black Radio, found below.

The great thing about this album is how accessible it is to all types of listeners. For the devoted jazz fans you will find the find the bands combination of different styles enthralling, for hip-hop heads you get to experience a new side of Lupe and Mos that you may not be used too, the quiet jazz rendition of Nirvana’s Smells Like teen Spirit showcases the bands talent to defy genre boundaries and create an album that every listener will enjoy. Whats more, if you buy the album on Itunes you get a bonus track covering the A Love Supreme by John Coltrane. The bonus track can be streamed below.

The first LA BoilerRoom show is going down tonight with a legendary lineup that I am very excited for. It is a show that consists of entirely Stones Throw label artists. Stones Throw was started in 1996 by Peanut Butter Wolf and has become a powerhouse of a label. At tonight’s show, Peanut Butter WolfJ.Rocc, and Dam Funk will be performing.  The show will start at 8-11pm and can be streamed here http://boilerroom.tv/live/. I probably wont be able to watch this live because its saturday night but have no fear. The BoilerRoom will release the audio and possibly the video of the event a couple days later.

Knxwledge once again graces us with another EP. This one titled Komfi dropped today. I swear the dude never sleeps with the amount of material he keeps on putting out. Check out the dope album artwork as well above. Its a fairly short EP with 5 tracks all under 3 minutes but we see Knxwledge’s  masterfully smooth vocal samples throughout. The EP can be streamed and bought off of his bandcamp page

Last week I posted on BBNG’s live performances of James Blake’s CMYK and Limit To Your Love you can find that here. This video was recorded while the band was at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards on January 21st.  Now they have released the rest of the songs from that show which include; Hard In Da Paint, DMZ, Banter, CMYK/Limit To Your Love, Rotten Decay, and Bastard/Lemonade. Needless to say I am always excited to hear new live material from this group and better quality than that shaky Youtube video.  Now some of these songs have already been released, but I am excited for the James Blake covers.  The album can be streamed on their bandcamp pageThere is also a link on the page for the free download via Mediafire. I also found some better video footage of the live performance.

Big live set at the BoilerRoom today with Buddy Peace, Boom Bip, Jneiro Jarel, and DOOM  closing out the set at 2200 GMT time which I believe is 2 PM for all of us on the west coast. If time zones confuse you, check out this chart to see if you can watch this live. http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/usa/pacific-time/convert/index.htm

Thankfully I don’t have class from 1-4 like I usually do so if you can be sure to check out this set if youre able. If not, the BoilerRoom is pretty good about releasing the sets for free on itunes.

The show can be streamed live here http://boilerroom.tv/live/

Thought I would throw this track up today, The Clean Hand produced by Pete RockBlu is an infamous west coast underground rapper and producer who has been getting a lot of attention for, most notably, Below The heavens with Exile. The rapper has released a vast amount of other material and all of it is good, warning he is lazy and releases unmastered material. It’s a treat to hear Blu over a Pete Rock beat. Happy saturday!

Check out this cypher with Blu, and Oddisee killing it along with Das Racist, Homeboy Sandman, and Final Outlaw.

Union, OJ and Gold, two parisian producers with a knack for analog space age beats, remix Robert Glasper’s song Move Love Ft. King. This is for a remix contest hosted by Glasper. Union  released one of my favorite hip hop albums of 2012 so far called Analogtronics which I will put a post on this weekend. The album has a wide array of classic talent including Talib Kweli, MF Doom, Big Pooh, Guilty Simpson, Mani Hoffman, and some others. To get you excited for that, heres a showcase of the duos talent remixing Move love (Which I posted on earlier last month but if you didnt catch it, heres the track again.

The Union remix can be streamed here along with a remix by Vlooper Remelange. http://www.moovmnt.com/2012/02/16/robert-glasper-experiment-move-love-remix-contest-pt-2/#.Tz6fbPGPW2U

We have been on a Bonobo kick lately here at the Astral Plane with the new Remix album set to come out on the 13th. I thought it would be good to show off the bands pure musical talent in this live video. If you haven’t noticed I am a big fan of bands that can perform equally as well or better out of the studio. IE BadBadNotGood, Robert Glasper, Bonobo, and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are all bands I have posted on who, I believe, can perform even better in a live setting. With the help of a live band, Bonobo (Simon Green) plays live versions of his studio tracks with the help of a keyboardist, guitarist, saxophonist, a singer, and a drummer. To start us off, I thought it would be cool to show you guys the live version of the remix that we posted on yesterday. Here is a live version of their song Eyesdown Feat. Andreya Triana in Bracknell 2010.

Next up is one of my favorites, this is their song called Nothing Owed off of their Dial M for Monkey album released in 2003. The live version is on their Live Sessions EP released in 2005. I highly recommend getting this album as it showcases the talent of Simon Green and the band that plays with him.

Knxwledge made another tribute to the great J Dilla yesterday. Using Dilla’s classic track, Let’s Take It Back, Knxwledge flips the track perfectly in this little remix to pay tribute to one of the best that ever did it. Check out the original if you haven’t heard it yet and Knxwledge’s after that.

Damu The Fudgemunk released this track off of his upcoming Kilawatt V1.5 album set to drop February 28th. The album actually leaked today so you can probably find it very easily. The track is almost seven minutes long with Raw Poetic on the mic and of course Damu producing an ill beat. Only Damu could throw in a sick Xylophone to create this blissful beat. This track in itself is phenomenal and has made me very excited to listen to through the entire album.
