Thanks to the fine people at IHC Presents, we have TWO very, very solid ticket giveaways for all of you lovely folks this week. On Thursday, Jersey club baron Nadus is headlining a busy bill at Los Globos that also features bombastic New York MC Leikeli47, whose LK-47 Pt. II is a shoo in as one of the best mixtapes of the year, MOD’s own Arnold and several other selectors. With May’s Broke City EP, released through Belgian imprint Pelican Fly, still percolating through the club world and reaching audiences large and small, Nadus is one of the premiere advocates (and vocal he is) of Newark’s siganture sound, bringing club music’s ever popular hit cut ups and rhythmic syncopation to dancefloors across the globe. And while Broke City invokes several other genres beyond the stoic, monumental sounds of Jersey club, it’s undeniable that the Thread representative is a true figurehead in the local Newark scene.

With that in mind, we have a pair of tickets for Thursday’s event, tickets that you could win with the simple action of selecting your favorite Jersey club classic in the form below. Ever since DJ Tameil, DJ TIm Dolla and their cohort brought the breakbeat-laden sounds of Bmore up to Jersey and transformed it into something more palatable for Newark’s dancefloors, Jersey club has racked up innumerable hits and while some have faded into the depths of the web, the large majority exist on Youtube, Soundcloud and other accessible platforms. Not to call out any names, but you will be eliminated from contention if you select a song by any of the unfortunate many zoologically self-identifying producers. On Saturday (12/13/14), Jacques Greene, Groundislava, Low Limit and Patrick Brian will also take the stage at Los Globos and we will also be giving out a pair of tickets. Submission form to come later this week!

I can’t pretend to have known Austin Peralta or to be profound enough to properly eulogize him, but what I can do is recognize the enormous outpouring of love for a young man and transcendent musician who has tragically passed away. It’s easy to portray false love/appreciation through a computer screen, but I truly believe in the genuine nature of the hundreds of tributes that have popped up across the web. I remember seeing Austin at Low End Theory earlier this year and remarking on the ingenuity of his (quite literally) mind melting solos, but leaving halfway through the set nonetheless. Whether it was a lack of patience or just pure laziness, I can’t remember, but Austin’s passing has enlarged a feeling of deep personal regret. On a larger scale, Austin’s passing, like his music, is a remark on the ephemeral nature of life itself. So please, listen to this recording from Austin’s release party in Eagle Rock last year and recognize the incandescence that was Austin Peralta.

Hit the jump for the rest of the sounds…

Boston’s M|O|D is an act you kind of have to take with a grain of salt. They’re young, immensely talented and release gargantuan amounts of music. A lot of that music is good, but some of it is really bad. So just know that you have to take the good with the bad with these guys. Anyways, REWROTE, LiL TExAS, Arnold (formerly TrapArnold), C.Z. and Yung Satan (did I get the stylization right?) just released their most fully realized tape to date, PENG, which is supposedly the first of three in a series. At only one track a piece, the tape offers a more controlled vision from each producer, as well as a step back from trap histrionics. The snare rolls and hi hats are still there, but they are just one component of a greater whole. PENG is labeled “Bass” on Soundcloud, an apt descriptor for a tape that jumps between hip hop, juke and Jersey club with ease. Yung Satan’s “Sugar” is the tape’s standout, combining 8-bit sounds with sexy vocals, resulting in one of the better club songs of the year. Stream and download PENG below.
